Respect and appreciation for the environment are hallmarks of the Canadian way of life. More and more people are looking for ways to experience our natural heritage first hand. That's why we created Kawartha Kayaking

Our mission is to introduce people to the beauty and serenity unique to the Kawarthas. We wish to promote environmental awareness in a way in which we "take only pictures, leaving nothing but foot prints and ripples from our paddles". We welcome couples, families, solo guests, and small groups.

The travel industry calls our kind of packages "soft adventure". Even if you've never seen a kayak up close, let alone had your hands on a paddle, our experienced instructors will give you the basic techniques to comfortably and safely guide these light weight, easily manoeuvred craft, through the waters of Stony Lake, part of the Canadian Heritage River System.

Native history tells us that Stony Lake had magical healing powers for wounded warriors. We still feel today these powers exist.

Wil TranterKawartha Kayaking founder Wil Tranter is a long-time resident of Stony Lake, who leads tours around the lake and around the world, including: Israel, Egypt, China, Bali, Thailand, and ecotours to Costa Rica and Holland.

An avid sports and outdoorsman, this former counsellor/economics teacher is also the founder and Race Director of the Stony Lake Triathlon. He is a member of Paddling Ontario Alliance, the Ecotourism Association for the Kawarthas, Peterborough and Kawartha Tourism & Convention Bureaus and Tourism Toronto.

Here's what some of our paddlers have to say about their Stony Lake experience:

"This was my first time in a kayak and I wish I had started it many years ago."
Mrs. Ann Heuckendorff, Richmond Hill

"Flat water kayaking is so peaceful and soothing. A beautiful way to see nature close up."
Mrs. Cathy Nelson, Toronto

"Stony Lake has a beauty all its own."
Dr. Al Rees, New Orleans

"Our group of international executives rated this kayaking experience as a high point of their stay in Canada. As an instructor, Wil was outstanding in his ability to interact and give the level of instruction appropriate to each individual. We plan to do it again."
Hilary Buttrick, Manager,
Global Executive MBA Program,
University of Toronto

"The world is 2/3 water ... Experience it by kayak!"
... and that's our opinion
